Can you join in with everyone else at a  carol service or Holiday sing along?

What if you only know the first verse? It gets frustrating when you have to la-la along and everyone else can read the words and be joyful and triumphant!

Here is a cheat sheet for some favorite chunnukah, Christmas and Holiday songs.  The religious carols and songs are listed first, and then the fun songs; both lists are in alphabetical order.

I have copied 3 verses of each carol here. If I missed your favorite, or you   want more verses, I got most of them from this website: http://www.41051.com/xmaslyrics/

If you still have reading vision for large print, you can copy and paste the carols you want into a new document and make the print as big and bold as you like, then print them out. You could have 1 page for each carol or song and staple them together so you don’t get confused or drop pages while you sing.

If you do not have reading vision, you can ask a friend to read the verses while you record them onto a digital recorder or the voice memo on your smart phone. Then you can play them over to yourself a few times till you mostly know them.

Hark the Herald Angels Sing

Hark! the herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn King! Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled Joyful, all ye nations, rise, Join the triumph of the skies; With the angelic host proclaim, Christ is born in Bethlehem. Hark! the herald angels sing,  Glory to the newborn King! Christ, by highest heaven adored: Christ, the everlasting Lord; Late in time behold him come, Offspring of the favored one. Hail! the heaven born Prince of peace! Hail! the Son of Righteousness! Light and life to all he brings, Risen with healing in his wings Mild he lays his glory by, Born that man no more may die: Born to raise the sons of earth, Born to give them second birth. Hark! the herald angels sing,  Glory to the newborn King!

It Came Upon the Midnight Clear

It came upon the midnight clear, That glorious song of old, From angels bending near the earth To touch their harps of gold! Peace on the earth, good will to men, From heaven’s all gracious King! The world in solemn stillness lay To hear the angels sing. Still through the cloven skies they come With peaceful wings unfurled And still their heavenly music floats O’er all the weary world; Above its sad and lowly plains They bend on hovering wing. And ever o’er its Babel sounds The blessed angels sing. Yet with the woes of sin and strife The world hath suffered long; Beneath the angel strain have rolled Two thousand years of wrong; And man, at war with man, hears not The love song which they bring: O hush the noise, ye men of strife, And hear the angels sing.

O Holy Night

Oh holy night! The stars are brightly shining It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth! Long lay the world in sin and error pining Till he appeared and the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!

Fall on your knees Oh hear the angel voices Oh night divine Oh night when Christ was born Oh night divine Oh night divine

Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming Here come the wise men from Orient land The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger In all our trials born to be our friend

Fall on your knees Oh hear the angel voices Oh night divine Oh night when Christ was born Oh night divine Oh night divine

Silent Night

Silent night! Holy night! All is calm, all is bright, Round yon Virgin Mother and Child! Holy Infant, so tender and mild, Sleep in heavenly peace! Sleep in heavenly peace!  Silent night! Holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight! Glories stream from Heaven afar, Heavenly Hosts sing Alleluia! Christ, the Savior, is born! Christ, the Savior, is born! Silent night! Holy night! Son of God, loves pure light Radiant beams from Thy Holy Face With the dawn of redeeming grace, Jesus, Lord, at Thy Birth! Jesus, Lord, at Thy Birth!

The First Noel

The First Noel the angel did say Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay; In fields as they lay, keeping their sheep, On a cold winter’s night that was so deep. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel.

They looked up and saw a star Shining in the east beyond them far, And to the earth it gave great light, And so it continued both day and night. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel. For lo! the days are hastening on,

By prophet bards foretold, When, with the ever-circling years, Shall come the Age of Gold; When peace shall over all the earth Its ancient splendors fling, And all the world give back the song Which now the angels sing.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel.

Hanukkah songs

Rock of Ages

Rock of Ages, let our song praise your saving power; you amidst the raging foes were our sheltering tower. Raging they assailed us, but your arm availed us, and your word broke their sword when our own strength failed us. Kindling new the holy lamps, priests, unbowed by suffering purified the nation’s shrine, brought to God their offering. And in lands surrounding hear the joy abounding happy throngs singing songs with a mighty sounding. Children of the prophet’s word whether free or fettered, wake the echoes of the songs where you may be scattered. Yours the message cheering that the time is nearing which shall see nations free, tyrants disappearing.

Oh Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah

Oh Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah Come light the menorah Let us have a party, we’ll all dance the hora Gather ’round the table, we’ll give you a treat Sevivon to play with, latkes to eat

And while we are playing The candles are burning low One for each night, they shed a sweet light To remind us of days long ago One for each night, they shed a sweet light To remind us of days long ago

Oh Hanukkah, oh Hanukkah Come light the menorah Let’s have a party, we’ll all dance the hora Gather ’round the table, we’ll give you a treat Sevivon to play with latkes to eat

Frosty the Snowman

Frosty the Snowman, was a jolly happy soul, With a corn cob pipe and a button nose, and two eyes made of coal. Frosty the Snowman, is a fairytale, they say. He was made of snow, but the children know he came to life one day. There must have been some magic in that old silk hat they found, For when they placed it on his head, he began to dance around! Oh, Frosty, the Snowman, was alive as he could be; and the children say he could laugh and play, just the same as you and me.

Jingle Bells

Dashing through the snow On a one horse open sleigh Over the fields we go, Laughing all the way Bells on bob tail ring, Making spirits bright What fun it is to laugh and sing A sleighing song tonight Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells Jingle all the way Oh, what fun it is to ride In a one horse open sleigh Jingle bells, jingle bells Jingle all the way Oh, what fun it is to ride In a one horse open sleigh A day or two ago, I thought I would take a ride, And soon Miss Fanny Bright Was seated by my side; The horse was lean and lank Misfortune seemed his lot We got into a drifted bank, And then we got upset.

Let it Snow

Oh the weather outside is frightful But the fire is so delightful And since we’ve no place to go Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! It doesn’t show signs of stopping And I’ve bought some corn for popping The lights are turned way down low Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! When we finally kiss good night How I’ll hate going out in the storm! But if you will really hold me tight All the way home I will be warm The fire is slowly dying And, my dear, we’re still good byeing But as long as you love me so Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

Rudolph, the red nosed reindeer And a very shiny nose And if you ever saw it You would even say it glows. All of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names They never let poor Rudolph play in any reindeer games. Then one foggy Christmas eve Santa came to say:  Rudolph with your nose so bright, wont you guide my sleigh tonight? Then all the reindeer loved him as they shouted out with glee, Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, you will go down in history!
