When You Can’t Believe Your Eyes: Vision Loss and Personal Recovery, a How To guide for people losing sight and their families was published in July 2019, including an accessible version.
“Does Your Pill Bottle Talk” is mentioned in Chapter 7.
October is the “You Can Save Lives Too” month. Start with your own! If you do not have talking, large print or braille prescription labels, you may be putting yourself at risk.
Wal-Mart and En-Vision America made a Joint Announcement in July, 2019: ScripTalk Accessible Prescription Labels are now available to All Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club Customers at 1100 Locations.
ScripTalk is probably the best because it reads the whole prescription aloud including refills and more. The label reader, with speaker and volume control, is available on loan.
The set-up takes a while but is worth it!
Check that your pharmacy provides ScripTalk labels, (most mail order and many local pharmacies do.) Sometimes the pharmacy doesn’t know that it provides these labels and you have to persist.
Arrange to get a ScripTalk label reader from En-Vision America.( It is the size and shape of a nineties “discman.”)
You may have to remind the pharmacist to attach the special labels in the way you want.
